Custer's last stand. Montana. Battlefield of Little Big Horn national monument. General George Armstrong Custer's marker indicates where his body was found following his death on June 25th, 1876. He and all his 210 cavalrymen of the 7th U.S. Cavalry were slaughtered by an estimated 2,000 Native American Indians led by Chief Crazy Horse following raids by the cavalry on their villages. The bodies of the soldiers were dug up from their respective grave sites and reinterred in one mass grave. Sept 2002. |
