 Eight months pregnant Helen Cummings utters the words 'Thank you God' as she is aquitted of murdering her husband Tyler by a court in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Ms. Cummings shot and killed her husband on Valentines Day 1998. The jury decided she acted in self defence and not in a 'jealous rage' as argued by the prosecution after Ms. Cummings found a valentine card and lewd photographs of another woman in her late husband'S car. Ms. Cummings, a nurse, left the court with her parents to return to England to raise her one year old son and soon to be born baby. The photo ran on the front page of The Times and inside all the British newspapers on September 23rd, 1998. a terribly sad story and as Helen's father said upon leaving court, ' There are no winners here, we are all losers.' The victim’s family complained of 'white man's justice,' arguing that Ms. Cummings murdered her African American husband in cold blood and had got away with it. |
